What we publish

vISIon publishes writing that is scientifically sound but readable by an educated person who is not a professional statistician. A good piece makes its assumptions visible, quantifies its uncertainty, and says plainly what the data can and cannot settle.

We commission across seven sections: featured articles, teaching, official statistics, software, interviews, country spotlight, and community corner. Formats we welcome include essays, interviews, visual explainers, short primers and field notes.

Length and style

• Featured articles: roughly 2,000 to 3,500 words, with two to five figures.
• Section pieces (teaching, software, official statistics, country spotlight): roughly 1,200 to 2,000 words.
• Interviews and letters: flexible, agreed with the editors in advance.
• Figures should be legible in print and in greyscale, supplied at 300 dpi or as vector files.
• References follow an author-year style and stay short: this is a magazine, not a journal.

How to pitch

Send a short note to the Editor-in-Chief with the working title, the section you have in mind, three or four sentences on the argument, and a line on why it belongs in the issue's Sustainable Development Goal theme. A full draft is not needed at this stage.

What happens next

The Editor-in-Chief and the relevant section editor read every pitch. If it fits, we agree a length, a deadline and a figure list with you, then work with you on one or two rounds of editing. vISIon is not a peer-reviewed journal, so there is no referee process: the editing is developmental, aimed at clarity and accuracy.
